An Update from the EEOC regarding COVID-19 and the ADA

The EEOC published an update to the What Should you Know.  https://www.eeoc.gov/eeoc/newsroom/wysk/wysk_ada_rehabilitaion_act_coronavirus.cfm

It provides an update and they indicate the new information as of April 17, 2020. It’s an excellent reminder that this situation continues to evolve. As the state governments begin to discuss reopening, there are considerations to be evaluated. This updated document addresses some of the ADA accommodation issues.

As you move forward:

  • Be proactive.
  • Be aware that new financial hardships may impact your ability to grant accommodations.
  • Engage the employee in a discussion.
  • Look for modifications or compromises.
  • Be flexible.
