Paid Sick Leave

We have been following relief measures being passed by Congress. Last week the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) was passed, which included Employee Paid Leave Rights. We will provide highlights to this legislation. Please call us for more information or if you have questions regarding FFCRA.

The FFCRA applies for sick leave taken between April 1, 2020 and December 31, 2020.

Generally, the Act applies to the following:

Employers

Employees who work at a company with fewer than 500 employees and who work for certain public employers.

Small business with fewer than 50 employees may qualify for certain exemptions.

Employees

Employees who are unable to work due to quarantine ordered by the government or health care providers.

Employees unable to work due to having to care for an individual subject to quarantine.

Employees who have to care for a child under 18 due to a school or child care provider being closed or unavailable due to COVID-19.

Benefits

Two weeks (up to 80 hours) of paid sick leave at the regular rate if it’s due to employee’s quarantine or COVID-19 symptoms.

Two weeks (up to 80 hours) of paid sick leave at two-thirds the regular rate if it’s due to caring for another.
